about

"Battle of the Punks and Pushers" is another stylistic mash up. This time, Ripper produced with sonic strokes of grungy blues infused punk folk rock supercharged with a stomping beat, looping harmonica and active percussion – all surrounding Ripper's acoustic guitar, edgy vocals and gritty lyrical stance.

A lyrical stance inspired by some of the writings of American journalist Gay Talese whose musings about late 2Oth century urban life in New York City and in particular, the construction of Verrazano-Narrows Bridge became the kernel of inspiration for the song.

" I've always been a fan of Talese's non-fiction work and particularly his detailed observations concerning daily life in a massive metropolis like New York City. So of course, his story about the building of The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in the early 60’s captured my imagination: The enormity of the challenge, the sheer volume of material, the courage of the workers and the dangers and the risks they endured – to get the just job done…to make a living. Once I got into it – it was the idea of the humanity inside the machine intrigued me the most. "

Battle of The Punks and Pushers

Catwalks and bridges.
Drinks and widgets.
Connections and rivets.
The boss man is bitching – oh yeah.

I climb so high
I climb so high
I climb so high
There's only one way I'm coming down

I can hear the punks and pushers all around
I can hear the punks and pushers all around

The heater's hot hand.
The catcher's cool eye
Swearing and the sweat.
The danger and death - oh yeah

I climb so high
I climb so high
I climb so high
There's only one way I'm coming down

I can hear the punks and pushers all around
I can hear the punks and pushers all around
I can hear the punks and pushers all around
I can hear the punks and pushers all around

I feel so high…
I feel Iike I could touch the sky
I ain't never coming down
I ain't never coming down
I ain't never coming down
